OUR MISSION AND COMMITMENT
At PFLAG Safety Harbor, we strive to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. This is a safe space where everyone is welcomed, supported, and respected.
WHAT WE OFFER
Support
PFLAG Safety Harbor offers monthly support groups for LGBTQ+ families and their allies, as well as wraparound support initiatives and programming. Support is available in person or online, and includes opportunities for healing, education, collaboration, and community-building across parents and families. In addition to our monthly support groups, special programming has included participation in Visible Voices with CSU Pride Center, panels hosted by AAPI Transgender Moms, My Trans Network, and Equality Florida, and our Annual Family Pride Picnic.
Education
All PFLAG Safety Harbor programming incorporates an element of education. Sharing knowledge in our community takes many forms, from discussion circles, to guest facilitations, brainstorming sessions, workshops, book clubs, and collaborative projects. Our chapter hosts clinics focusing on topics like gender-affirming care, trans* health and healthcare, name change procedures, and suicide prevention. Workshops offer information on supporting and advocating for LGBTQ+ young people during social transition or in school environments, and navigating life as an LGBTQ+ family.
Advocacy
PFLAG Safety Harbor participates in ongoing, community-chosen initiatives with the goal of building a safe and diverse world for all LGBTQ+ people, their loved ones, and their allies. By working alongside local, state, and national organizations, we seek to educate key decision-makers and amplify LGBTQ+ voices. Our advocacy often takes the form of attending local school board and city council meetings, state legislative sessions, and board of medicine meetings, as well as taking opportunities to show support and solidarity for LGBTQ+ people in our everyday lives, or at special events and demonstrations.
